On the second day, January 17, 2019, we took part in the flag ceremony at 07.45 a.m. until completion at 08.00 a.m., after finishing the flag ceremony we all waited to meet with the cooperating teacher to discuss the placement to be used as a place of teaching practice. At this event we express our expectations for this program and the expectations of SPUS for the smooth running of this program. But Neti and I cannot meet our cooperating teacher because we did not go to school. This program resulted in class provisions for our teaching practice, namely four people in elementary school and three people in junior high school. After we finished we all took a break to prepare ourselves for observations in the afternoon and lunch at the SPUS canteen. At 2:00 p.m. we all made observations to the classes that had been determined, but Neti and I did not go to the class that was supposed to be in class 10 but I made observations in grade 8 with physics subjects while Neti conducted observations in grade 9 with chemistry subjects. When making observations in the first class I found students who were active and very diverse in character. Especially when told to do outdoor activities, these students are very active and very happy, the material taught is about earthquakes, how we acted before the earthquake, an earthquake occurred and after the earthquake, the students were told to make video of these activities. Observation activity on that day was finished at 05.00 p.m., this time the activity was quite exhausted because Mr. Sergio Basitil goes around seeing his students make a video. After the activity was finished, all of us had dinner together at the girls' dormitory again.

Meeting with Cooperating Teacher

The third day came at SPUS, on this day the activity was only classroom observation, as usual we attended a flag ceremony before conducting learning activities. The SPUS flag ceremony is held every day before learning activities. After the ceremony, we were introduced to SPUS junior high school students as observers and who will practice teaching in SPUS junior high schools. The observation began at 8:00 but I was invited by Mr. Sergio went to the music studio to listen to his students practice music, after listening to the music practice we went back to a different class but still in 8th grade, in the class discussed the earthquake as well and a review of the video yesterday, and was asked to recreate the video with a theme already determined by Mr. Sergio. And we went around looking at the students who were making videos, and the class became the last class in the morning session and I asked permission to get ready to go to the mosque to run the Friday Prayer. I left for the mosque at 11:30 a.m. I was escorted by one of the Student Buddies namely Marc on his motorcycle. Muslims in Surigao were very friendly, I finished the Friday Prayer at 12:45 p.m. and was picked up again by Marc then delivered back to the SPUS building. Today did not have time for lunch because I had to observe again at 1:00 p.m. but it did not make me unhappy, I continued to be enthusiastic about participating in the activity. The class that became the object of the next observation was the 8th grade, when we came to the class the situation was very messy with the children who were still working on the assignment, Mr. Sergio immediately told his students to clean the class before doing the learning process. Same with previous classes Mr. Sergio discussed the facts about what activities should be carried out before an earthquake occurs, during an earthquake and after an earthquake and instructs students to make a video of the methods carried out during the earthquake according to the facts given. Today's observations finished at 05.00 p.m. and as usual we had dinner together again at the girls' dormitory.

The next day, Saturday, January 19 2019, it's time to take a walk, today the agenda is a tour to Butuan City. Today's tour is to Butuan National Museum, we depart from SPUS at 7:30 a.m. and arrive at Butuan at 10:00 am, all the way we joke, laugh and see beautiful scenery especially when you see the lake, on the way to the museum we got lost on the road but finally arrived at Butuan National Museum. Butuan National Museum contains the history of the Philippines and the history of the formation of the city of Butuan, in this Museum there is also archaeological evidence of the colonial period by Spanish colonialism such as the human skull at that time, the tools used at that time, and objects that became the main attraction namely a wooden boat found in the area named Balangay. The museum is divided into three parts, namely a prehistoric and archeological room filled with prehistoric items and artifacts found in them. The technology building, this building contains items used by people at that time but more modern than artifact artifacts in archeological buildings such as those made of metal, there are already woven fabrics, musical instruments and others. The last is a building in which there are various paintings on canvas, each painting has a very deep theme about civilization and the peace of each painting has a different theme. After listening to the story from the tour guide about history, about the explanation of the objects there, we also left the museum and had lunch in front of the museum building. When we are finished we head to the second museum, Butuan Archaelogical Park, in this museum there is a wreck called Balangay, this large sized boat used by ancestors who lived nomadically in Southeast Asia and the Polynesian islands. In the museum also the ship was found exactly behind the building where the remains of the Balangay ship were displayed. The Balangay ship is made of the three hardest Philippine wood trees and has no metal in the shipbuilding. After completing a visit to the museum, we set out to look for a mosque to perform the midnight prayer and we found a Muslim village in the city of Butuan. After carrying out the prayer we were invited by Sister Nicole to a Mall in Butuan City namely Robinson Place, this Shopping Center Sister Nicole said more complete than the one at Surigao. We all go around in the Mall, there are those who buy shoes, personal needs, and the most exciting are the typical Butuan City culinary hunting in the Philippines, but I never bought because I was always told to spend what they bought. We at the Mall are given 2 hours and we go home at 3:30 p.m. On the way to the SPUS, all participants were exhausted and fell asleep in the car and we arrived at Surigao at 6:30 p.m. before returning to the hostel we took the time to buy dinner at a dining place called "Mang Inasal". After we finished buying food, we all went back to the dorm to eat our dinner. This dinner is really delicious as if eating in Indonesia the taste of the food.

Sunday, January 20, 2019 is a holiday, there is no special agenda from the SPUS so we went to Gaisano to buy some personal items and we all had lunch at Jollibee in Gaisano. We departed at 10:00 a.m. who participated were Novita, Neti, Tita and I we were looking around for personal and shared items, eating food at Jollibee and scouring around looking for Surigao specialties, we went back to SPUS around 12:00 p.m. and we rest in the girls' dormitory. Actually we made an appointment with Marc at 2:00 p.m. to accompany us to buy bags and print documents to Surigao City but there were few obstacles so that we departed from SPUS at 3:30 a.m. using a typical Surigao vehicle, Multicab for PhP 9 when we arrived at the store, Novita immediately chose and buy a bag at a price of PhP 250, meanwhile Tita goes to the Money Exchange to exchange Rupiah for PhP but unfortunately it can't because at Surigao it's very difficult to exchange Rupiah to PhP. Then we go to the school supply store to buy stationery, looking for a place to print out our documents right at the print out place, we meet local Surigao people who work at the place and apparently they are also teachers but teachers in public schools, and we are invited to take photos together with them, we also meet Muslim women and we are invited to tour the Surigao park and look for typical food and we find quack, fishball, fishsteak, steakball. We go home from the park almost at 6:00 pm using the same vehicle which is multicab for the same fee and we do not go directly to SPUS but to McD first to buy dinner and then go back to SPUS hostel at 6:45 p.m., I am in the girls' dormitory until 09:00 pm because waiting for the rain to subside first.
